As you can see - they have A LOT of PEZ dispensers. We paid $5 to get in, then we walked around and viewed all the old school pez dispensers, took a quiz about pez, and got a bucket of pez, and got free baby pez from the cashier (and $2 off!). It didn't have a tour showing how they were made though (like Jelly Belly in California did), but it was alright.
After PEZ we headed over to Yale (and my hair was straight when I left the house but cause it was a misty day it curled :(
Bulldogs! This is a real dead dog.
I dared Kami to stand on this cool fountain
Yale kids do graffiti in chalk
On the way to the hotel, Kami fell asleep on her Yale Bookstore bag...she woke up and had blue all over her face and hands.
We ended the day's adventures at Friendly's - which yes, we have them in VA but Kami hadn't been before and we had been talking about the ice cream...and it smelled better than the ones in Richmond.
As hinted to - I was out of town this past weekend. It was one crazy weekend with G-Sauce and Kami. We visited 6 states in basically three days (two days were spent in Boston). I easily took a million pictures and we crammed a lot in to each day, so I will try to break it down by state.
Saw this on the high way - thought it was fun
First - we flew into Boston and got a rental car and headed to Rhode Island.
Welcome to Rhode Island
Rhode Island was a bit stinky. As Kami put it, it smelled like walrus.
It was chilly so we went into a little visitor's center...it was stinkier so we got in the car. And then found a Dunkin Donuts and I got a coffee cake muffin - yum-o
...and then got stuck there because of a rain storm.
The rain let up and we went to buy our souvenirs and move on to the next stop...Connecticut.
I was talking to my friend last week about making a CD of "stalking" songs. (I have a few possible titles, "Look Who's Stalking" or "Here's Stalking You, Kid". I told my friend that the songs are love songs and he seemed surprised by that, to which I replied, "There's a fine line between wooing and stalking" and I truly believe this.
In the movie 27 Dresses, gorgeous former cycloptic hero* James Marsden is intrigued by Catherine Heigel's character. He shares a cab with her and she leaves behind her uber stuffed planner of wedding after wedding to be a bridesmaid or maid of honor. He decides to use this planner to hunt her down, under the pretense of getting an idea for a story, but really, he's stalking her. Because it is the overly attractive Marsden not many people bat an eye at this behavior. But had it been, say, the guy at church who is obsessed with Dungeons and Dragons and who you neither find attractive or particularly easy to talk to, we would have all noticed that this behavior is socially unacceptable. So what makes the difference? What pushes you to one side or the other?
It's the interest that the stalkee has in the stalker. When a girl likes a guy she doesn't mind him texting all the time, asking to hang out, or showing up where she happens to be. When this girl is not interested, this behavior goes from sweet and dreamy to super creepy.
An example, I am currently out of town (how exciting! Pictures and blog posts to come soon). There are two boys who I would love to make an example of right now.
Boy A - writes me on Facebook and tells me not to miss "us" (Richmonders) too much, to which I reply, "I'll try not to." I ask him what he is doing this weekend and he says, "might go to the beach, might go crazy, might miss you?" and then mentions how I didn't even leave him a survival guide.
Boy B - Sends me three texts and I don't reply. He catches me when I am on Facebook and asks how my plane flight was. I say it was good. He asks what state I'm in, I say Vermont. He says, "I miss you already" and I don't respond.
You can probably tell by the interactions on my side who I am interested in and who I am not. If you can't, there would be some interest in Boy A. Granted, he's never asked to meet my parents and hasn't texted me everyday since he met me (and Boy B asked has done both) maybe I would see him as a stalker if he did that. Also, I've only hung out with Boy B once in a group setting and he seems to have developed an attachment from that and Boy A I actually have hung out with a few times and would say he's becoming a friend.
For my final example: notice in the following video how creepy the man's behavior is - at the time you are worried for the girl...as time goes on you realize that the girl may be interested and then everything is oh so sweet...or rather, still uber creepy, but you get the point. And if you don't, at least you enjoyed the video, right? Right?
Pictures from the Mud Run last Friday. The Mud Run was a 5k around Brown's Island, it was mostly trail running, but it was also mostly walking because for much of it we were single file. We had to jump into the river with about a mile left and then run with soggy shoes and wet pants (apparently in the past they had a rock scramble but the water was too high this yea) At the end you have to crawl through a pit of mud.
Did it in 40 minutes - which I think is good considering the walking and the obstacles (note to readers - you can't run when you're waist high in water...I tried).
Also, the Mud Run starts a weekend of festivities down there. So there were dogs jumping into a pool competing for distance and these sky divers...all before the race even began.
After the run...
We went to the washing station and people were lining up and getting sprayed down with a hose. We opted to just walk down to the river and wash off. I took a step too far and ended up in water up to my chest - that would have drowned poor Kathryn! (JK Kat)
We washed off and then sat on rocks to change our shoes and socks.
My did not make the return trip home (or even the trip to the car, there was no saving those)
For comparison's sake (p.s. those hairy legs are not mine!)
As we were leaving I ran in to Christian, Erin, and Kami. Kami thought it was great because she said as they were walking down to Brown's Island that she hoped she'd see me and then she did! (It's less likely than you'd think).
I had a lot of fun and to be honest it didn't even feel like a race (cause of all the walking) and I am going to do it again next year!
This past Saturday I went and hiked Old Rag...again. I think this makes 4 or 5 times. We started out with seven of us - but then we kind of split up into groups (I've noticed this happen pretty much on every hike I've been on.
The group at the very beginning-minus Chris taking the picture
Plus Chris-minus some to the left
Four of us met up at the first little rest area. We snacked a little, drank some water and got right back to it.
The longest line ever! I've done this hike several times and have never seen it this long. People have to climb between two big rocks and it's a little hard for shorter people.
Chris and Brady opted not to wait for the line and started finding other ways around
All he had to do was squish himself between two rocks, cut his leg, and keep trying.
Views from the top
I love this hike...but I might be getting too old for this stuff. I was pretty sore after this time. But - I wouldn't say "no" to going again.
