I'm not happy, Bob. Not happy.*

Dear United States Postal Service,

First of all, Happy Holidays. I know it is a busy time of year for you and yours. I greatly appreciate the work that you do. I love getting letters and magazine subscriptions in, as far as I know, a timely manner. I visited one of your locations today. I think it's great that you are so patriotic! I don't think I've ever seen a place with so much red, white, and blue and posters of bald eagles that say, "United we stand." However, there is a darkness that surrounds this patriotism. I think it's the lack of adequate lighting. How about we try some bigger windows, or possibly brighter light bulbs? It would really make the reds, whites, and blues just pop!

I also like how you display your customer service awards on the wall, I think that's an awesome idea. However, I couldn't help but notice that the most recent one was from 2008. I have some ideas of how you could spruce it up a bit, not only around the "office" but also in the hearts of your employees.

  1. Decorate! It's autumn!! Put up some pretty decorations showing that you know how beautiful it is outside. The leaves are changing colors, the holidays are fast approaching. If you don't have the budget for it, have the local elementary school draw pictures to have their artwork displayed at the Post Office! The post office doesn't have to be such a dreadful place! I mean, I almost would prefer to go to the DMV - at least they have chairs for you to sit in while you wait.
  2. Let's try adding some music...heck even muzak would be better than nothing. I mean seriously, are you trying to make your employees unhappy? Adding music will improve not only the mood of your employees but also it will make waiting in that line more enjoyable bearable.

That's kind of all I have for you today. These are things I noticed as I waited in line while two very unhappy clerks did all they could to keep the line moving. I just think that if there was at least music then it wouldn't have felt like quite the waste of time (only 50% of my lunch break - don't worry about it) since I only went in for international stamps and you were all out...again.

I hope you'll take my suggestions in to consideration. I think they'll take you far.

Sincerely,

Concerned patron who can't seem to get any international stamps.

Have you ever been to the Verizon store? That place not only ate my entire lunch hour once, but tacked on an additional half hour. All to get a battery replaced. I was one very unhappy customer. (And I'm usually overly nice!)

LOL! My thought as I was reading that was, "She must have gone to the State Street post office." Then, I remembered you are not even in Utah.

Our post office plays nothing but the horrible, horrible Polar Express from Thanksgiving to, oh, about St. Patrick's Day. Dave, a clerk, and I were trying to think of what he could replace it with and see how long it would take for any of the other clerks to notice.

screw the post office. i wish they would privatize they entire system. unfortunately that would take a constitutional amendment. the post office is inefficient b/c the government runs it. screw that. let dhl / fedex / ups take it over!
